Ronald D. Richards was born in Emmet, Arkansas, August 17,1935, to the late Mirl
and Irlene Richards. After fighting a courageous battle with cancer, Ron was
welcomed into the arms of his Lord on September 13,2011. Left to cherish his
memory are his wife of 43 wonderful years, Sandra, and children - son Tim and
wife Cindy, daughter Laurie, son Kevin and wife Kimberly, and son Brett and wife
Stacy. Ron was blessed with his four grandchildren - Lindsey Turner Casey and
Leslie Turner, Will Richards and Haley Richards, and a great grandson Reid Casey
.
After graduating from Hope High School in 1953, Ron attended Southern State
College where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business and Economics in
1957. While in college, he was active as a cheerleader, member of Tri-C Business
Club and Stagecrafters. After graduation, Ron studied real estate at Southern
Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and became a licensed real estate broker in
Texas. In 2007, he received the Distinguished Golden Rider Alumni Award from
what is now known as Southern Arkansas University.
Ron was the assistant to the Vice President of Drilling and Production at Crystal Oil
Company in Shreveport, Louisiana before joining Hunt Oil Company in Dallas,
Texas in 1972. During his tenure with Hunt Oil, he managed the employee pension
fund's real estate and became involved in all aspects of Hunt's real estate
transactions. In 1978, he moved to Woodbine Development Corporation, where he
was Executive Vice President and oversaw all aspects of the company's land and
corporate developments from project inception through completion. Among the
many projects with which he has been involved include Hyatt Regency Dallas.
Reunion Tower, Fossil Creek, D/FW Freeport and the Hyatt Regency DFW. Ron
guided the land development for Hyatt Regency Hill Country Resort in San Antonio
and for Keirland, a master-planned development in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a
member of the Irving Economic Development Board. Ron retired from Woodbine in
1995, but continued to consult for many companies on special projects through his
business, RDR Consulting. Most recently, Ron was honored to be involved with the
development of the Hope Center in Plano, Texas, a 185,000-square-foot building that
is home to June Hunt's Hope for the Heart worldwide biblical counseling ministry
and over 40 different Christian ministries.
Ron has been a longtime member of Preston Highlands Baptist Church where he was
a trustee and served on various committees. Ron always put his faith, trust, and life
in God's hands. The unfailing strength he found through his daily walk with Christ
was made evident through his courageous battle with cancer. Ron's bigger than-life
personality was never more visible than throughout this time. His contagious humor
and positive attitude was a draw for the medical staff that cared for him throughout
his treatments. His total involvement during this process soon gained him the
nickname "Dr. Richards" by the medical staff. Our prayers will continue to be that
God will be glorified through the legacy of Ron Richards' life.
