Memories of Linda
from Wanda S. McCorkle
Linda was more like a sister to me. We grew up together in Unity Baptist
Church. I have many pictures of our group from Unity, as we went to meetings,
etc. We girls had our hats and gloves and the boys had their ties. Most of my
memories made with Linda are of this time. Her parents and mine were friends,
and we spent a lot of happy hours on the lake. I had a crush on her brother,
Henry Lee. Linda was so quiet and shy, but you get past that shyness. She was
a hoot! I spent many, many nights at her house. Her mother was one of the
SWEETEST people in the world and she told me just before she died that Henry
Lee and Linda never gave them any trouble at all growing up.
I miss Linda. We didn't see each other much after she married Kinard Young,
but we were "frien's 'til the end." I just cannot get over the way it all ended for
their sweet family. Mr. Bowden had Alzheimer's and they had to put him in a
nursing home. Mrs Bowden was heartbroken and then she found out that she had
a tumor herself. I think it was a brain tumor...anyway she was living with Linda
after Kinard died, and then Linda got cancer. They both were in hospitals in
Little Rock at same time and that's where they died. Separate hospitals, I think.
So sad...
