We were married at St. Anthony Catholic church in Cambridge, Massachusetts,
followed by a reception at Hans's father's small summer home in Connecticut
where other family and friends were gathered. It meant a 3-hour drive for the
rest of us! But a great party!
If you notice at the top of the
"descending the church steps"
snapshot, there are white lines
falling down. That is
spaghetti! Hans's friends
started throwing literally bags
full of spaghetti because
Hans was noted for his
spaghetti appetite. It was a
good thing because at that
time it was the only food I
knew how to cook Š.aside
from fudge!
Hans's mother
taped a cartoon
to a snapshot she
made at the
reception. I
added the beard
recently from a
present day
photo. Might as
well go all the
way in making
fun!
Because it was the only date we could get together with our immediate family, we
had an early celebration in Santa Fe the week before our anniversary.
The second celebration was in Seattle on the proper date, June 7, 2006, with our
daughter, Wendy, son-in law, Chris and their 2 daughters, Emily and Megan.
Joanna and her husband, Dave, live in Washington, DC, and Robin lives in
Pittsburgh with husband, Tim, and daughter, Kelsey and were unable to be there.
We are all scattered or traveling so getting everyone together at one time in one
place is difficult, i.e. Robin was climbing Mt. Shasta!
As you can see, Hans and I were blessed with 3 daughters and 3 granddaughters.
We are proud of them all and remain a very close family. I am truly grateful for
our 50 years together.

ANNIVERSARY QUILT
(made by grandchildren)
Emily and Megan made an anniversary quilt. Each square has a reason
for what it takes to bind two people together for 50 years. Emily and
Megan sewed 50 individual little hearts and attached them with a
button from Megan’s button collection to the center of each square.
One of my favorite squares was “Sanity/Insanity” with Insanity written
upside down, below Sanity!
Anniversary in Seattle
June 7, 2006
The real anniversary date
When we walked into Wendy"s home , we were nearly blinded by
gold! The grandchildren truly got carried away with decorating!
EVERTHING was golden. It was a wonderful surprise.
The children
jumped up and
down and
clamored for a
kiss under the
Golden
Mistletoe!
It has been a long journey, as many of you have experienced,
-----full of happiness, difficulties, love and support of one another.
We have traveled the world and learned together. Gee whiz! What an
adventure!
Topping off" our days of celebration,
Hans and I went to the trail head of Mt.
Rainier where our daughters summitted
the previous year when they climbed
with other cancer survivors in the
"Climb Against the Odds" for the
Cancer fund. Arriving at 50 years of
marriage has the similar exhilaration of
reaching the top of a mountain with
many challenges along the way....and
the world looks quite beautiful from up
here.
